This page provides general information about session structure, fees, and practical arrangements. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s or school’s needs, please feel welcome to get in touch.
Play Therapy sessions typically last 40 minutes and are offered on a weekly basis, at the same time each week, to support consistency and emotional safety.
Children are usually offered an initial block of 12 sessions, allowing time to build a therapeutic relationship and begin meaningful therapeutic work. The length of therapy is reviewed regularly and may be extended where appropriate, based on the child’s needs.
Planned endings form an important part of the therapeutic process and are carefully supported.
1:1 Play Therapy in My Home Practice
Initial Consultation
A free 15-minute telephone or face to face consultation is offered to parents/carers prior to starting therapy. This provides an opportunity to discuss concerns, ask questions, and consider whether Play Therapy is the right support for your child.
Fees
Individual Play Therapy sessions: £60 per session
Sessions are booked in a minimum block of 12 sessions
Administration and Therapeutic Support
A one-off administration fee of £75 applies at the start of therapy. This supports the wider therapeutic process surrounding your child’s sessions and includes:
Initial parent consultations to understand your child's needs and goals.
End-of-therapy parent consultation and feedback discussion
Therapeutic review
A written summary report outlining progress and themes observed
Optional liaison with school or other professionals (where appropriate)
Further Sessions
Where continued therapy is recommended following the initial 12-session block, this will be discussed collaboratively with parents or carers and based on the child’s individual therapeutic needs. Further sessions may be arranged in an agreed follow-on block at a reduced fee of £55 per session. The need for ongoing therapy will continue to be reviewed regularly.
Heart & Soul Therapeutic Play Practice is an approved provider on the City of Edinburgh Council Flexible Purchasing Framework for Certified Counselling and Therapies for Children and Young People.
Schools may arrange Play Therapy for pupils as part of their wellbeing and inclusion provision. This enables children to access therapeutic support within their educational environment, including those who may not otherwise be able to access private therapy.
All school-based work is delivered in line with Play Therapy UK (PTUK) standards. Parental/carer consent is always required and forms part of the consultation process.
Typically offered in blocks of 12 weekly sessions
A reduced rate per session may apply where four or more pupils are seen on the same day
Group Play Therapy
Small groups of typically four children
Groups typically run for 6–10 sessions
A reduced rate per session may apply where there are additional group or 1:1 Play Therapy sessions on the same day.
Group composition is carefully planned to ensure children are developmentally similar and share common themes (e.g. anxiety, transitions, friendships).
Where services are commissioned through the City of Edinburgh Council framework, fees and invoicing follow the agreed framework rates and purchase-order arrangements.
Nurseries and schools commissioning services directly are provided with a clear quotation before work begins. Reduced session rates may apply where several individual or group sessions are delivered within the same setting on the same day. Invoices are issued monthly or at the end of an agreed block, depending on the arrangements.
Home-based private sessions are arranged in blocks, with payment requested in advance of the agreed block. This supports consistency, commitment and the therapeutic process. Payment arrangements are discussed and agreed before therapy begins.
In some circumstances, alternative payment arrangements may be considered and discussed individually. All fees, payment terms and cancellation arrangements are clearly outlined in the Therapy Contract before sessions begin.
Clear cancellation arrangements are in place for both schools and private clients and are explained fully before therapy begins. This ensures fairness, clarity, and consistency for all parties.
Fees reflect the professional training, preparation time, clinical supervision, and reporting involved in therapeutic work. If you would like to discuss fees, funding options, or whether Play Therapy may be appropriate for your child or school, please get in touch.
