Providing a safe, nurturing space where children can explore emotions, build confidence, and grow at their own pace.
I’m Alison Thomson, a Certified Practitioner in Play Therapy, registered with Play Therapy UK (PTUK), a professional body accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). I have over 30 years experience supporting children and families across education, leadership, and therapeutic settings.
I offer one-to-one Play Therapy sessions for children aged 4 to 13, following the Integrative Holistic Model of Play Therapy, a developmentally informed, child-centred approach that uses play as a child’s natural way of expressing thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Sessions provide a consistent, calm, and supportive environment where children are supported to explore what they need to, in their own time and in their own way.
Children may benefit from play therapy during times of:
Worry, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm
Changes at home or school
Bereavement, loss, or family separation
Big feelings they struggle to express
Challenges with confidence, self-esteem, or friendships
Behavioural or social difficulties
Experiences that feel confusing or hard to talk about
Through creative and symbolic play, including art materials, sand, clay, stories, movement, and imagination. children are supported to express emotions, strengthen resilience, and develop new skills for coping with everyday challenges.
My practice is trauma-informed, rooted in child development and neuroscience, and supported through regular clinical supervision to ensure safe, ethical, and effective therapeutic work. I work closely with parents, carers, and schools to support a holistic understanding of each child’s needs, while maintaining the confidentiality and boundaries that help children feel secure.
If you feel your child may benefit from Play Therapy, or if you would like to find out more, please get in touch. I’m here to listen, support, and help your child thrive.
